Content Editor Getting Started Guide

Welcome to the Content Management System! As a Content Editor, you have the power to create and edit engaging content using our intuitive block-based system. This guide will help you get started quickly and efficiently.

What You Can Do

As a Content Editor, you have these permissions:

  • Edit Content: Modify text, images, and other content blocks on existing pages
  • Preview Changes: See how your changes will look before they go live
  • Work with Blocks: Add, edit, and arrange content blocks within pages
  • Manage Media: Upload and organize images, videos, and other media files

Note: You cannot create new pages, delete content, or publish changes. These actions require Site Admin or Root Admin permissions.

Accessing the Editor

There are several ways to access the content editor:

  1. From any page: Look for the "Edit" button in the top navigation when you're logged in
  2. From the user menu: Click your profile picture/name → "Blocks Editor"
  3. Direct URL: Navigate to /blocks on your site

Understanding the Interface

The Blocks Editor interface has several key areas:

  • Navigation Tree (Left): Shows the site structure with folders and pages
  • Content Area (Center): Displays the blocks that make up the current page
  • Properties Panel (Right): Shows settings for the selected block
  • Toolbar (Top): Contains actions like Preview, Save, and Add Block

Your First Edit

Let's make your first edit:

  1. Navigate to a page: Click on any page in the navigation tree
  2. Select a block: Click on any text block in the content area
  3. Edit the content: Use the rich text editor that appears
  4. Save your changes: Click the "Save" button
  5. Preview: Click "Preview" to see how it looks to visitors

Tip: Changes are automatically saved as drafts. They won't be visible to site visitors until a Site Admin publishes them.

Working with Different Block Types

You'll work with several types of content blocks:

  • Rich Text: For paragraphs, lists, and formatted text
  • Headers: For section titles (H1, H2, H3, etc.)
  • Media: For images and videos
  • Buttons: For call-to-action links
  • Quotes: For customer testimonials
  • Collections: For organizing multiple blocks in columns or carousels

Each block type has its own editing interface and options. Experiment with different types to see what works best for your content!

Best Practices

Follow these best practices for effective content editing:

  • Use Headers Properly: Structure your content with H1 for main titles, H2 for sections, H3 for subsections
  • Keep Text Scannable: Use bullet points, short paragraphs, and clear headings
  • Optimize Images: Use high-quality images but keep file sizes reasonable
  • Preview Often: Check how your content looks on different screen sizes
  • Be Consistent: Follow your brand's style guide for tone and formatting
