STAGING re-do in progress

Templates (Super-Blocks)

Templates (also called Super-Blocks) are pre-built, reusable block compositions that help you create consistent, professional page sections with a single click. This guide will show you how to find, apply, and request templates.

What Are Templates?

Templates are complete, pre-designed block structures created by root administrators. They contain multiple blocks arranged and styled to create common page sections like hero banners, service showcases, contact forms, testimonial sections, and more.

Key Characteristics:

  • One-Click Application: Apply an entire section with a single click
  • Professional Design: Created by designers following best practices
  • Consistent Branding: Maintain visual consistency across your site
  • Fully Editable: After applying, blocks become independent and fully customizable
  • Time-Saving: Skip the design phase and start with proven layouts

How Templates Differ from Content Collections:

  • Templates: One-time stamp of a block structure. After applying, blocks are independent.
  • Content Collections: Live references to shared content. Updates propagate to all pages.

Finding Templates

Templates are organized in a special Templates folder in the Navigation panel:

  1. Open the Navigation panel on the left
  2. Look for the Templates folder (usually at the bottom)
  3. Click to expand and browse available templates
  4. Templates are organized by category (Hero Sections, Service Showcases, Contact Sections, etc.)

Template Icons: Each template has an icon to help you quickly identify its purpose.

Applying a Template

To apply a template to a page:

  1. Navigate to the page where you want to add the template
  2. Click Add Block where you want the template to appear
  3. In the block selection modal, templates appear alongside regular blocks
  4. Click on the template you want to use
  5. The template's blocks are instantly copied to your page
  6. Customize the content, images, and settings as needed

Important: Once applied, the blocks are independent copies. Changes to the original template won't affect your page, and changes to your page won't affect the template.

Editing Applied Templates

After applying a template, you have full control over the blocks:

  • Edit Content: Click any block to edit text, images, colors, etc.
  • Rearrange Blocks: Drag blocks to reorder them
  • Add Blocks: Insert additional blocks between template blocks
  • Delete Blocks: Remove blocks you don't need
  • Modify Settings: Change any block settings (shadows, animations, backgrounds, etc.)

Best Practice: Start with the template structure, then customize to match your specific content and needs.

Common Template Types

  • Large banner with headline, subheadline, and CTA button
  • Background image or video
  • Perfect for page tops and landing pages

  • Grid or carousel of service offerings
  • Icons, descriptions, and links
  • Ideal for homepage and service overview pages

Contact Sections:

  • Contact form with company info
  • Map, phone, email, address
  • Great for Contact page and page footers

Testimonial Sections:

  • Customer quotes in carousel or grid
  • Photos, names, and ratings
  • Build trust on any page

Feature Grids:

  • Highlight key features or benefits
  • Icons with descriptions
  • Effective for product/service pages

Call-to-Action Sections:

  • Compelling headline with action button
  • Background color or image
  • Drive conversions throughout your site

Requesting New Templates

If you find yourself creating the same block pattern repeatedly, request a template:

  1. Contact your root administrator
  2. Describe the section you need (or share a link to an existing example)
  3. Explain where and how you'll use it
  4. The root admin will create the template and add it to the Templates folder

Good Template Candidates:

  • Sections you use on multiple pages
  • Complex layouts that take time to build
  • Designs that need to be consistent across the site
  • Common patterns your team uses frequently

Template Permissions

Who Can Do What:

  • Root Admins:
    • Create new templates
    • Edit existing templates
    • Delete templates
    • Organize templates in folders
    • Apply templates to pages

  • Site Admins & Content Editors: - View templates in the Templates folder - Apply templates to pages - Edit blocks after applying templates - Cannot create, edit, or delete templates themselves

Why This Matters: Templates are centrally managed to ensure design consistency and quality across all brands. Root admins maintain the template library to provide proven, professional layouts for everyone to use.

Best Practices

When to Use Templates:

  • ✅ Starting a new page or section
  • ✅ Need a proven, professional layout quickly
  • ✅ Want to maintain design consistency
  • ✅ Building a common section type (hero, contact, testimonials, etc.)
  • ❌ Need a highly custom, one-off design
  • ❌ Template doesn't quite fit your needs (better to build from scratch)

Customization Tips:

  • Replace placeholder text with your actual content
  • Upload your own images to replace template images
  • Adjust colors to match your brand (if needed)
  • Modify spacing and sizing to fit your content
  • Add or remove blocks as needed
  • Don't feel locked in - templates are just starting points

Maintaining Consistency:

  • Use the same template for similar sections across pages
  • Keep customizations minimal to maintain the template's design intent
  • If you find yourself heavily modifying templates, request a new template that better fits your needs

Performance:

  • Templates don't impact page load times (they're just regular blocks after applying)
  • Feel free to use multiple templates on a single page
  • Optimize images after applying templates

Templates vs. Other Features

Templates vs. Content Collections:

  • Use Templates when: You need a layout/structure that you'll customize with unique content
  • Use Content Collections when: You have the same content appearing on multiple pages
  • Use Both: Apply a template, then add a Collection block within it to display shared content

Templates vs. Building from Scratch:

  • Use Templates when: A template exists that's close to what you need
  • Build from Scratch when: You need a highly custom design or no template fits
  • Hybrid Approach: Start with a template, then add custom blocks to extend it

Templates vs. Copying Pages:

  • Use Templates when: You need a section/component, not a full page
  • Copy Pages when: You want to duplicate an entire page structure
  • Note: Templates are more focused and easier to maintain than copied pages

Troubleshooting

Can't find Templates folder:

  • Check the Navigation panel on the left
  • Scroll to the bottom - Templates folder is usually last
  • If still missing, contact your root administrator

Template doesn't appear in Add Block modal:

  • Verify the template is published (root admin setting)
  • Refresh your browser
  • Check if you're in the right context (some templates only work in certain locations)

Applied template looks different than expected:

  • Templates adapt to your brand's colors and fonts automatically
  • Check if you accidentally modified settings after applying
  • Try applying the template again on a test page

Want to update all instances of a template:

  • Templates are one-time copies - you can't update all instances
  • If you need shared content that updates everywhere, use Content Collections instead
  • For design updates, you'll need to manually update each page or re-apply the template
