Creating and Managing Pages

Learn how to create, organize, and manage pages effectively using the block-based content management system. This guide covers everything from basic page creation to advanced organization strategies.

Understanding Pages vs Folders

The system uses two types of navigation blocks:

  • Pages: Contain actual content that visitors can view
  • Folders: Organize pages into logical groups and create navigation structure

Think of folders like directories on your computer – they help organize content but don't contain content themselves.

Creating a New Page

Note: Only Site Admins and Root Admins can create new pages. Content Editors can edit existing pages.

  1. Navigate to Blocks Editor: Access through user menu or /blocks URL
  2. Select Parent Location: Choose where to create the page (root or inside a folder)
  3. Click "Add Page": Look for the + button or "Add" option
  4. Enter Page Details:
  5. Name: The page title
  6. Slug: URL-friendly version (auto-generated from name)
  7. Save: The page is created in draft status

Page Structure and URLs

Pages automatically generate URLs based on their location:

  • Root page: /page-name
  • In folder: /folder-name/page-name
  • Nested folders: /folder1/folder2/page-name

Important: URLs are automatically generated from the folder structure. Moving pages changes their URLs, so set up redirects if needed!

Adding Content to Pages

Pages can contain various types of content blocks:

  • Headers: H1, H2, H3, etc. for structure
  • Rich Text: Paragraphs, lists, formatted text
  • Media: Images, videos, files
  • Buttons: Call-to-action links
  • Lead Forms: Customer contact forms
  • Maps: Location maps
  • Collections: Organize blocks in columns or carousels
  • And more... See the Block System guide for details

Page Organization Best Practices

Organize your pages for better user experience and SEO:

  • Logical Hierarchy: Group related pages in folders
  • Clear Naming: Use descriptive names for pages and folders
  • URL Structure: Keep URLs short and meaningful
  • Navigation Depth: Avoid going more than 3-4 levels deep
  • Homepage Links: Important pages should be easily accessible

Publishing Workflow

Understanding the publishing process:

  1. Draft Status: New pages start as drafts (not visible to visitors)
  2. Content Creation: Add and edit content blocks
  3. Preview: Test how the page looks to visitors
  4. Review: Check content for accuracy and completeness
  5. Publish: Make the page live (Site Admin+ only)
  6. Updates: Further edits create new drafts until republished

Managing Existing Pages

Common page management tasks:

  • Editing Content: Click on any block to edit it
  • Reordering Blocks: Drag and drop to rearrange content
  • Moving Pages: Drag pages to different folders (Site Admin+)
  • Deleting Pages: Remove outdated content (Site Admin+)
  • Duplicating Pages: Copy existing pages as templates
  • SEO Settings: Configure meta descriptions and keywords

SEO Considerations

Optimize your pages for search engines:

  • Page Titles: Use descriptive, keyword-rich titles
  • URL Structure: Keep URLs clean and descriptive
  • Header Hierarchy: Use H1 for main title, H2 for sections
  • Meta Descriptions: Write compelling page descriptions
  • Internal Links: Link related pages together
  • Image Alt Text: Describe images for accessibility and SEO
